YOUNG FREIGHT FORWARDER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2011. Calling All Employees in the Freight Forwarding & Clearing Industry – the South African Association of Freight Forwarders’ Young Freight Forwarder Award is a national competition potentially leading the winning entrant to a chance of becoming the FIATA Young International Freight Forwarder of 2011. The competition is open to all staff members in the industry under the age of 30, who have 4 years freight forwarding working experience and are employed by a member company of the South African Association of Freight Forwarders. All entrants must commit to potentially completing two assignments within a six month period.

The local competition winner wins a laptop and a trophy from SAAFF. Once a winner is selected from SA, the winner is then entered into a global regional competition called the RAME region which includes Africa & the Middle East. The winners from the 4 regions become finalists in the International competition and are judged at the FIATA Convention annually. The 4 finalists are flown to the Convention paid for by FIATA and have to present their projects to a panel of FIATA judges.

South Africa has only once been an International winner. Thomas Sims from Fiata who visited our training community this week, flying in from Singapore (featured in the pic above), aligns with  SAAFF in encouraging young workers in our domain to enter and compete and show the international community of freight forwarders that South Africans don’t only organize soccer at global standards … but that our talent pool has striking ability and can add points to companies' balance sheets.

Entries are open now and we look forward to an over-whelming response! For more information regarding this wonderful career defining competition, please contact Margy Pedder on 011 455 1726 / saaff@saaff.org.za

We encourage comment from members of the industry with either a fresh perspective or in response to one of our weekly contributions. Please e-mail us at editor@supplychainupdate.co.za
