Bolloré Logistics SA obtains TAPA Level C Certification

19 October 2017

Transport and logistics company, Bolloré Logistics South Africa has received the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Level C certification for its Pomona warehouse in Johannesburg. This is the first African subsidiary to receive this kind of certification.

In February 2017, the team in South Africa undertook the TAPA FSR audit certification process. This certification is an internationally recognised security standard that guarantees that Bolloré Logistics’ warehouse is under an optimised security management system.

High-Value Theft Targeted (HVTT) asset theft poses a significant problem for many industries. Theft of electronics, pharmaceuticals, clothing, high-end foodstuffs, auto parts, building supplies and almost any other cargo of value is a daily occurrence, and this type of crime leads to lost revenue, compromised brand integrity, and in some cases harm to consumers. The TAPA standard mainly focuses on the issue of theft to enable logistics companies to monitor the security of the supply chain.

The benefit of becoming TAPA certified is to align Bolloré Logistics South Africa warehousing practices with internationally recognised requirements in the fight against cargo crime. TAPA is respected around the world for its proactive work in protecting high-value cargo in transit.

TAPA’s Facility Security Requirements (FSR) and Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) have been developed by supply chain security professionals and logistics specialists and are widely respected as the leading security standards for the movement of high value; theft targeted goods and many supplier contracts now demand compliance with TAPA Standards.

The certification campaign also aims to build greater awareness for TAPA’s manufacturing members of the freight, logistics and transport companies that provide TAPA-certified facilities and trucking operations, providing us more visibility on the market. Bolloré Logistics is an active member of TAPA and strives to be awarded Level A certification in future.

This first certification for any warehouse in Africa is a great achievement and is only the beginning of a global TAPA certification program. Next steps will be to strive for more warehouses certified throughout Africa.
